Time to raise those glasses! Asia’s largest beer festival, Beerfest Asia is back for its 8th edition from 16th to 19th June 2016 at the picturesque Marina Promenade Park (aka. F1 tracks behind the Singapore Flyer).

Just when will you ever get the chance to dance around over 500 varieties of beers and ales? We’re not even talking about the premium whiskies and yuppy spirits just waiting around the corner yet! Of course, its not just drinks, drink and drinks. The festival has an entire line-up of over 30 tribute bands, stand-ups and local musicians ready to give you the best night (or nights, you daredevils) ever. There’s no doubt. This event is undoubtedly the most talk-about and merry celebration that one should relish as best with family and / or friends in the whirling year of 2016!

@beerfestasia is back! And I can't wait to have more of #friendship... By that I mean this friendship beer from Japan!

As Thirsty Merlions, we have had the grand privilege of sampling a dozen of good Crafts from participating vendors, and these are the few worthy ones that insofar had satisfied our tastebuds and won our hearts:

Gosnell's London Mead

Gosnells London Mead could not have chosen a better place to make its debut in Singapore.

These brewers employ traditional brewing methods that carefully blend organically sourced Citrus Blossom Honey with Water (nae Hops, Apples or Grapes), just so to create this new flavour of Mead celebrating its virtuous simplicity that is honey-sweet with hints of floral. Fast forward a mere 10 days for fermentation, and it’s ready to be hand-bottled, pasteurised and labelled in the Peckham meadery in the UK for distribution worldwide.
At 5.5% ABV, the Gosnells is drier than most other Meads, however makes for a lighter and much more refreshing swig! Those who are new to the scene can start getting their taste buds ready with a bottle, oh who am I kidding, a dozen of this. And if you want to - get there fast! There are only a little over a 1,000 necks available per season!

Swan Lake Ale

These peeps from Epicurean Nomads are dedicated to sourcing and importing a premium yet limited array of Japanese artisanal Sakes and Craft Beers.

One of these Crafts was the Swan Lake Ale. It is a delightful hazy mix of Reddish Amber draught, gracefully grassy, with pulsating hums of aromatic hops; rightfully creamy, nutty and malty at once.

At 5% ABV, the Swan Lake Ale is definitely a beer to sip over slow time. Alike the Japanese concept of Wabi-sabi: the perfection is in the imperfection. The way this beautiful ale would be perceived in the mouth, represents this perfectly.

Pilsner Urquell

Born in 1842 in the city of Plzen in the Czech Republic, the world’s first pilsner (aka. golden) beer comes across as fresh, clear and refreshing, plus hint of caramel sweetness and a fragrant balanced hoppy bitterness.

At 4.4% ABV, this is one clear blondie that you could get drunk just consuming its sweet foam!
